I grew up in Michigan, but have lived in Waynesville since 1990.

I have been married to David for 31 years.  I have 3 children, each who graduated from APCS.  Anders is an aerospace engineer in California.  Peter is a senior studying mechanical engineering at NC State.  Caroline is currently a highschool senior at Georgia Cumberland Academy with plans to attend Southern Adventist University.

I first connected with APCS when Anders started as a 7th grade student.

I received a MPH in nutrition and a DrPH in Preventive Care from Loma Linda University in 1989.  Raising my children was my primary career for many years while working in a variety of part-time positions.  I started my professional career by teaching nutrition related classes at Western Carolina University.  I also wrote a column for the Waynesville Mountaineer.  I then worked as a nutrition consultant in several different medical practices. After many years, I returned to teaching at Mount Pisgah Academy to teach Health For Life.  I currently teach General Science for the 7th and 8th graders at APCS, Biology to Sophomores and Anatomy and Physiology for college credit to Seniors at Mount Pisgah Academy.  Teaching is definitely my favorite professional role.   I have been privileged with the unique opportunity of teaching college, high school and middle school level classes.

My goal at APCS is to help the students prepare for high school science by presenting them with challenging material and concepts.  I also want to present hands on activities that can make science fun as well as interesting.

When I am not at APCS I enjoy working for SonRise Community OutReach which is a Saturday morning breakfast kitchen for the community in West Asheville.  I also love to run, hike and spend time gardening.  My happy place is spending a warm summer day with family and friends on Lake Keowee.  A bonus is finding smooth water for a great water ski run.
